Grid Tied Inverters

An Inverters primary function is to harvest all the available sunlight on your solar panel and convert it into usable electrical current. (DC) current into (AC) electricity. An inverter will always be required for a solar panel system to make electricity. This applies to both a “grid tied” system and a “off grid system”.  The size of your inverter will be determined by the amount of power created by your solar panels. The specifications of your inverter will depend on the amount of wattage your solar system produces and whether your solar system is grid tied or a off grid system.

There are two different types of grid tied inverters: Micro and Central inverters.

Central inverters combines the direct current from all connected solar panels and converts the direct current into alternating current. The alternating current is then passed to the electric grid. Central inverters are relativley cheaper, but are not as efficient as micro inverters.

Micro inverters connect to a single solar panel instead of feeding all of the solar panels into one inverter. This allows to treat each solar panel as an indivdual rather than a whole. If one solar panel is weaker or malfunctions, it will not affect the other solar panels current. The majority of micro inverters are very reliable and come with a 15 to 25 year warranty.
